Vliegende Draeck

Built for the same family that ordered the Suydersee, clipper Vliegende Draeck (Flying Dragon) touched water in the Frisian village of Makkum in 1909. She was first named Lauwerszee, then Hendie, Betsy and Lauwerszee, before eventually gaining the name she goes by today.

Her owners decided to ready her for a different career in the year 1993. An extensive reconstruction turned the Vliegende Draeck into an impressive charter vessel, sailing the Wadden Sea, Lake IJssel and the Frisian Lakes since.

Aboard the Vliegende Draeck

High railing goes all around the ship’s deck and wide gangways make it a great choice for those who travel with small children.
Sit back and enjoy the views of the beautiful Dutch sea and lakes from the comfortable seating area.

The cosy day room is fitted with a radio, a CD-player, games and lots of books in an extensive library. Whenever it gets too cold inside, you can easily turn up the central heating. This also means the ship sets its sails off-season, taking you on wonderful winter sailing trips.

Below deck, the galley supplies you with everything you need to make your own snacks and meals. Here, you can use all necessary cooking utensils, such as pots, pans, plates, cutlery and glasses. The ship’s kitchen is provided with a 6 burner stove, an oven, a fridge, 2 sinks and even a beer tap!

All cabins have their own sink with running water, a reading light and storage space for your personal belongings. Central heating keeps the room on a pleasant temperature and you can open a little port hole on to let in fresh air.

The Vliegende Draeck has 3 toilets as well as 3 showers. This means the ship does not have to be docked whenever you need to use the bathroom.
