The tradional sailing ships of the Netherlands

Our sailing ships

Rederij Vooruit offers a wide range of different types of sailing ships.
Our fleet consists of over 40 authentic clippers, barges and other historical vessels, all bearing a rich history.

Brown fleet

Whether loving or braving it, the Dutch have been strongly connected to water and it has always been an important part of our country’s story.
The brown fleet describes professional charter sailing with traditional vessels from Dutch origine, originally built as cargo ships. Many of these vessels date from around 1900 and served blooming careers in transport, before being turned into charter ships or houseboats when the age of steam engines took over.
Today, most owners have renovated their ship and equipped the interior with a living space, cabins, a kitchen and sanitary facilities.
