About the Mercurius

The traditional tjalk barge Mercurius saw its construction completed in the year 1885.
This makes her one of the oldest ships of the fleet and a true delight to sail on.

An extensive renovation in 2008 fitted the Mercurius with several brand new modifications, but the skipper was clear about letting the ship keep her authentic look.

Step aboard for an unforgettable sailing trip over the Dutch sea and lakes.
The Mercurius will show you the true allure of the Netherlands!

Aboard the Mercurius

The Mercurius has wide gangways and the deck is surrounded by a high railing, which makes the Mercurius particularly suitable for a sailing vacation with kids.
On deck offers the best view over the water and invites you to experience sailing to the fullest.

Below deck, the cosy day room has all sorts of entertainment, such as a radio, a cd-player, a board library and a lot of games.
Whenever days get too cold or off-season sailing has your preference, you can turn up the central heating for a pleasant temperature inside.

All cabins have a private sink with hot and cold running water, a reading light and storage space.
A little port hole can be opened when needed and central heating keeps the bedroom nice and warm.

The ship’s kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare your own snacks and meals during your sailing trip.
Here you can find a stove, an oven, a fridge as well as 2 sinks. Also all necessary cooking utensils are available for use, such as plates, pots, pans, cutlery and glasses.
To really get the party started, ask Rederij Vooruit to supply you with a beer tap on board!

The Mercurius has its own sanitary facilities of 2 toilets and 2 showers.
This means the ship does not have to docked in a port when you want to use the restroom.

In 1234, Harlingen gained its city rights and 1644 saw the Dutch Admiralty move from Dokkum to the blooming Frisian harbour. Craftsmanship and industry formed the city’s main…
