Port Lelystad

Lelystad is the capital of the Dutch province Flevoland. The city is named after the engineer of the famous Afsluitdijk, Cornelis Lely.

Situated at Lake IJssel, Marker Lake and the Wadden Sea, it is the perfect starting point for a wonderful sailing trip. Step aboard and discover the beauty of the Netherlands!

Built on a seabed of the former Zuiderzee, Lelystad is one of the youngest cities of the Netherlands. When the Afsluitdijk was finished in 1932, reconstruction of the then created Lake IJssel saw parts of the lake drained around 1950. The first inhabitants moved to the city in 1967 and it became an official municipality in 1980.

The harbour offers great facilities for guests to stay overnight and the city has lots of things to see. But foremost, a walk through Lelystad takes you back to the time of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and voyages to the Orient, with a replica of the ship Batavia being the must-see of the region.
On the Batavia Wharf, you can also find a double of Michiel de Ruyter’s ship De Zeven Provinciën (The Seven Provinces). Take a tour over the wharf and get to know everything about life at sea in the early days.

Lelystad offers a wide range of good restaurants, bars and also several malls. The best-known mall is Bataviastad; this enormous outlet mall provides you with brand clothing for discount prices.

Also the Aviation Museum Aviodrome promises a spectacular day of fun for the whole family. Here you can dive into the interesting history of Dutch aviation, including many interactive attractions to playfully guide you through the museum.

In 27 kilometers, the Houtribdijk crosses Lake IJssel from Lelystad.
Although called a dike, the Houtribdijk is actually a large dam, which divides the lake into Lake IJssel and the Marker Lake. You can make wonderful walks or bike rides on this dam, with stunning views over both lakes.
